Durlyn Stomberg 1935 – 2025
Durlyn Stomberg, age 89, of Miltona, Minn. died on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025, at his home.
Services will be held at Rose City Evangelical Free Church with the time to be determined. Additional services and burial will be held in Odenville, Alabama at a later date.
Durlyn was born on Dec. 21, 1935, to Albert and Thelma (Wilson) in Adrian, Minn. The family relocated to Rapid City, SD where he graduated from Rapid City High School. Durlyn then worked in construc-tion for several years before enlisting in the U.S. Army. During his service, he was stationed both overseas and in the United States before receiving an honorable discharge on March 3, 1961. After returning home to his family in the Menahga area, Durlyn resumed his career in construction, traveling for Professional Office Builders based in Madison, WI. While working on a project in Alabama, he met Betty June Kirkland. They were married in June 1965 and made their home in Leeds, Alabama, where they spent the next 46 years together. Following Betty’s passing in August 2008, Durlyn remained in Alabama. In 2011, he met Renee Dean, and they were married on Jan. 30, 2012. Together, they made their home near Lake Miltona and enjoyed traveling to Alabama and Menahga to visit family. Durlyn’s love for the Lord was important to him and being a devoted member of Rose City Evangelical Free Church. He also found joy in feeding wildlife, tinkering in his garage, and passionately following Alabama football.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; children, Kennon Kirkland and Rodney Kirkland; infant sister Marcia Stomberg; and brother Stephen Stomberg.
Durlyn is survived by his wife of 13 years, Renee; children, Raylene Sparks, John (Judy) Kirkland, and Donna Nunnelly; children of the heart, Cynthia (Ken) Auer and Larry Dean; siblings, Diane Pederson, Keith (Sharon) Stromberg, Rose Johnson, and Mark Stomberg; along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
