Harlan Stoehr 1929 – 2024

Harlan Ray Stoehr, age 95, of North Oaks, MN, and formerly of Shoreview, MN, died September 3, 2024, following complications from a Covid infection in November 2022.
Harlan was born at Ridgeway, MN, on February 4, 1929, and was raised on farms in Winona and Olmsted counties. He served in the United States Marine Corps 1951–54 (Korea 52–54, Japan 53–54). In 1956 he married Marlene Mattila, who graduated from Sebeka High School in 1949. Harlan attended many Sebeka all-class reunions with Marlene and immersed himself in the lore of Sebeka. A skilled researcher and historian, he contributed to the development of the book published upon Sebeka’s centennial (Sebeka: One hundred years, 1898–1998).
Harlan held a master’s degree in journalism history from the University of Minnesota (U of MN), with further study in science writing and communications research. He served successively as assistant professor and agricultural bulletin editor at the U of MN; director of publications and corporate advertising at Midland Cooperatives in Minneapolis; vice president at Federal Intermediate Credit Bank in St. Paul; senior vice president at Peterson Morris MacLachlan in Minneapolis; and founder and CEO of M-Comm Ltd. in St. Paul. In retirement he worked as a publishing consultant until age 88.
Harlan is survived by his wife Marlene Mattila Stoehr; daughters Valerie Stoehr (Carol Iwata) and Beth (John) Michaelson; grandchildren Emily, Heidi, Molly, and Tyler Michaelson; sister Lois Neighbors; and sister Dorothy Wood. He was preceded in death by parents Ernest Theodore Herman Stoehr and Anna Martha (Rott) Stoehr, brother Marvin Stoehr, and sister Carolyn Ehler.
