Katherine Brose 1948 – 2024

Katherine “Kathy” Brose, 75, of Park Rapids, Minn., joined her Lord and Savior on October 11, 2024 while holding the hands of her husband and daughters at home singing Jesus Loves Me.
Kathy was born on October 27, 1948 in Park Rapids to J. Oscar and Eleanor (Haanpaa) Yliniemi. She was raised and educated in Park Rapids; Butte, MT; Coeur d’Alene, ID; Detroit Lakes and Chisholm, MN. Kathy graduated with her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) diploma from Detroit Lakes Technical College. She started her nursing career in Detroit Lakes and then worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital as a circulating nurse in surgery.
Kathy married Dean Brose in 1980 and they made their home in Park Rapids, MN. Kathy was a beloved mother of six children: Kenny, Sissy, Joe, Kirsten, Matt, and Christina.
Kathy was a proud Christian and took joy in spreading the gospel wanting all of her friends and family to know her Lord and Savior. She was active in teaching release time, Sunday school, and Awana. Dean and Kathy built, owned and operated their family business Eagle View Golf Course for 40 years. They spent their winters in Pharr, Texas for the past 10 years enjoying being retired and feeding the seagulls.
Kathy had a deep love for her family and enjoyed teaching her grandchildren how to make Finnish flat bread and Christmas ornaments. She had many talents that included painting, crafting, quilting, sewing, carving and baking. She had a generous heart and liked to share these talents with her children, grandchildren and relatives. She got great pleasure with giving gifts of her current “craft” to family and friends. She was always “game” to play cards – especially when the “girls” won!
Kathy had a love for her cousins and enjoyed attending “cousins’ group” to quilt, make cook books, plan family picnics and visiting. She enjoyed taking pictures and was a great family historian. She relished making family picture albums and calendars for her friends and family.
Kathy was an amazing seamstress and made many “outfits” for her children and grandchildren. Kathy enjoyed traveling with family and relatives and was reluctant to pass up a good flea market, garage sale, or antique shop.
Kathy will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Dean. Her children: Sissy (Bob) Deitchler, Joe Yliniemi, Kirsten (Kelly) Craft, Matt (Sam) Brose, and Christina (Justin) Wilson; her grandchildren: Morgan (Ryan) Lundin, Britni, Issac, Riley, Colby, and Austin Deitchler; Jacqueline, Hunter, and Evan Yliniemi; Kodi (Jess) Craft and Katelin (Dan) Hanson; Hayden, Kendra, James Dean (JD) Brose; Rachel and Kylee Wilson. Her great grandchildren: Mikenzie Lundin, Cooper and Cash Baumann, Paisley and Hank Deitchler, Jaxon and Harper Deitchler, Elizabeth Yliniemi, Riley and Elijah Gass. and Cruz Craft. Siblings: Mary Jane (John) Yliniemi-Pazdernik and Mike (Nancy) Yliniemi.
Kathy is singing and dancing in heaven with her parents; her bothers: Leonard and Ronnie Yliniemi; her son: Kenny Smith; her great granddaughter: Kinley Rose Lundin; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins
