Paul Malone 1934 – 2024

Paul Malone was welcomed home into the loving arms of Jesus on Monday, April 8, 2024, surrounded by his beloved family.
A lifelong resident of Wadena County, Paul was born to Patrick and Magdelena (Tabery) Malone on June 30, 1934 and was the eighth of their twelve children. He graduated from Sebeka High School with great friendships and school pride. Shortly after graduating, he chose dairy farming for his career because he loved caring for the land and animals. He was progressive and farmed with passion and the purpose of taking care of others to provide food to share at their tables. Paul had a heart of gold and found the love of his life at a local pub and later asked for her hand in marriage on St. Patrick’s Day. Vera Wegscheid said “Yes!” and the “I Do’s” were shared on September 3, 1962, in Bluffton, MN at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
The handsome couple grew their family a full football team with them playing too. Their nine children were taught valued traditions of farming, gardening, hunting, fishing, construction, being avid sports fans, caring for others, loving unconditionally, and sharing Irish wisdom and humor. Paul looked forward to hosting and celebrating any occasion with family and friends. Everyone knew they were welcome at their home. His unwavering faith in God taught others to lead by example. Paul was a lifelong member of St. Hubert’s Parish in Bluegrass. He also enjoyed serving others through the Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus, Northern Lights Chorale, church choir, and community service clubs.
Paul is survived by his beloved wife Vera of 61 years; children: Bill (Deana) Malone of Wadena, Pat (Sue) Malone of Saratoga, WY, Paula (Jim) Walz of Sebeka, Vern Malone of New York, NY, Charlotte (Mark) Merchlewicz of St. Cloud, Deb (Joe) Renelt, of Cedar Park, TX, Dan (Tanya) Malone of Wadena, JoAnn (Mac) Olson, of Sebeka, and Matt (Jody) Malone of Frazee; 30 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; along with siblings: Eileen Johnson, Tom Malone, Patty Kicker, and Joan Vokurka.
