Over 450 Attend Men´s Night Out

More than 450 men took part in Tri-County Health Care’s eighth annual “Men’s Nite Out” health-education program on April 29 at Memorial Auditorium in Wadena.
Roxy Hejhal, TCH Foundation manager, was pleased with the turnout and the positive comments about Men’s Nite Out. “Promoting men’s health is what this event is all about,” said Hejhal. “We couldn’t be more pleased with the enormous amount of interest Men’s Nite Out generates.”

Boondocks Café provided soup and sandwiches for the hungry attendees, who had to fast six hours before their health screenings for accurate results. New this year was demonstrations by Bob Schultz, Minnesota DNR certified ATV instructor, and Greg Oldakowski, Wadena Area Conservation officer.
The evening program kicked off with a welcome by TCH Foundation President Dennis Miley, who thanked the men for attending Men’s Nite Out this year. Local radio personality, Rick Youngbauer, served as master of ceremonies for the evening program.
The evening’s first presentation was by outreach specialist, Dr. Ben Robertson, who gave an overview on the anatomy of the shoulder. Dr. Robertson discussed prevention and treatment for common shoulder injuries. He then answered questions from the audience.
Next on the program was the ever-popular question-and-answer panel featuring Dr. Robertson, Dr. Paul Thompson, outreach specialist from Northern Orthopedics, Steve Davis, MD, family practice physician at Wadena Medical Center and Tim Sly, physical therapist at TCH.  They answered questions from the audience about a wide range of topics from orthopedics to proper exercise for men.
Rounding out the evening was guest speaker, Ron Schara, outdoor enthusiast and television host of “Minnesota Bound.” Schara’s lovable Labrador retriever, Raven, was the true star of the night. Schara entertained the audience with heart-warming, humorous stories he and Raven have experienced over the years. Through television, newspaper and radio success, Schara has become a vital resource and champion for outdoor issues and he shared his passion for the outdoors with the men in attendance.
